The Traditional Knit Project is taking me on a journey of heritage knitting. First stop- Ganseys.
Ganseys, Guernseys or Jerseys are the original types of fisherman sweater, originating from the Guernsey and Jersey islands of the British Isles. Their drop shoulder construction works well for a tight-knit finish. The lower half of the sweater is usually completed in stocking stitch (which is easy to repair if and when), but the top half boasts designs inspired by fishing communities, their landscapes, heritage and culture.

Every piece in this collection is curated from a 'rabbit hole' of historical research. As a Heritage Illustrator & Craft Researcher, I rescue the weird, wonderful and hidden histories of fibre arts; translating them into accessible tools and art for the modern creator. When you choose an InStitchesbyImogen piece, you are helping to keep these historical narratives alive.
